Our Does

Sophie (D149
"Sophie" (D149) is, like "Jenny", one of our first dairy goats. We received her in January 2009, and are milking her since July 2010. She is one of our best milking does (6.5 litres per day during peak lactation).
Her genetic background is not known. Based on her very "Saanen like" appearence (face, ears, body shape), we assess her to be around 90% Saanen, with some mottled Anglo-Nubian genes mixed into it (see, for example, her daughter "Hannah", below).
Saanen Goats Sophie Ike Tina
"Sophie's" genetics is special in that she is polled (genetically hornless, we DO NOT dehorn our goats!). The polled gene is dominant. This means that, on average, 50% of the offspring of a polled and a horned parent will be polled.
