About Wildlife on our Farm: Spider Wasps
Spider wasps (Pompilidae) are a cosmopolitan wasp-family with some 5000 species. They all are solitary (do not form colonies). They
capture and paralyze prey (spiders), which serve as food for their larvae. Some spider wasps construct borrows in sand
(below), where they deposit the paralyzed spider, whereas others build clay nests with a cell for each spider/larvae (left).
