The bushland east of Margaret River was cleared from west to east in the last century, mainly to gain farmland for dairy farms. Our property was cleared around 1965. At the same time the Government changed the policy, and no more land was cleared afterwards. This explains why there is only bush to the east between our property and Nannup, which is 40 km away. It also explains why our property is rich in wildlife, which is fascinating for us, both being trained biologists.

The following pages show various wild animals which we have observed on our farm over the years, and had a chance to take photos.

To minimise conflicts between wild animals and our fences, we did not fence our entire property, only the paddocks. Between them, areas are not fenced, which function as wildlife corridors. They allow kangaroos and emus to cross our property without having to challenge our fences.

This concept of wildlife-corridors works really well! The wild animals learned quickly how they can travel across our property without getting zapped, and emus or kangaroos inside our paddocks, and damages to our fences, are very rare.
