Our
Goats
The kangaroo species that lives in our area is the "Western Grey Kangaroo" (Macropus fuliginosus). It is closely related to the "Eastern Grey Kangaroo". The distribution of these two species overlap, and they are often difficult to identify.
We observe that the Western Grey Kangaroo forms sedentary social groups, which consist of adult females and young animals. Male kangaroos ("Boomers") are not sedentary and usually only show up during breeding season.
Kangaroos joyes can be hand-raised and make lovely pets.

Not every female has a joye every year, and mortality of joyes during their first weeks out of the pouch is quite high. Consequently, the population of the Western Grey Kangaroo can grow up to 40% in one year under favourable conditions, but can be negative, if conditions are adverse. The population on our property has decreased massively as soon as we excluded them from our paddocks, but remained stable at a low level since then.
