Slow-flowing Bio-Sandfilter
This article describes the water treatment system we use to purify our dam water so that it can be used (and complies with the legal requirements) for our cheese making facility.
The system is a slow-flowing bio-sandfilter. It is low-tech, hence reliable, and requires almost no maintenance. It is suitable for situations where mildly polluted water, for example water from a farm dam or soak, is used as raw water source to produce potable water.
It consists of two standard PE water tanks with a volume of 4500 Lt and 3500 Lt, respectively. The inflow of the replacement water to the filter tank is regulated by a simple float valve (full article).
